Reyes Commits to New England College

by Bombers Staff

The Long Beach Bombers are proud to announce the college commitment of defenseman, Matthew Reyes. The 1997-born Delta, BC native has chosen New England College, where he will join teammate and friend, Spencer Kozlowski. Reyes was involved in a deadline deal, that saw him leaving his three-year home with the Valencia Flyers, and heading to their rival Long Beach Bombers. The New England College Pilgrims compete at the NCAA Division-lll level.

The 6’1, 190lb right shot is a defense-first player, that continually makes sacrifices for his team’s benefit. His shot blocking ability is second to only his willingness. He is a great positive influence, both on and off the ice, and a vocal leader. In his four-year WSHL career, Reyes compiled a stat line of: 134GP-7G-53A-60Pts. He appeared in two Thorne Cup Finals, both resulting in a Semi-Finals game loss.

Long Beach Bombers Head Coach & General Manager, Chris White, commented, “Matty is a warrior. I don’t know if it’s his style of play, or just bad luck, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him not playing through an injury. I’ll never forget him leaving a game on a stretcher, then showing up for our team meeting, and playing the next day. Matty is a coach’s dream - he plays hard, he does whatever it takes to win, he communicates, and he stays positive, regardless of the situation. He’s one of those players that you probably don’t give enough credit to, until he’s wearing your team colors. We’re excited for him to enjoy the next four years as a collegiate student-athlete. He’s the type of young man that will probably have a letter on his chest, before all is said and done in his college career. We wish Matthew much success, and look forward to following his career.”
