Monkey Sports Player of the Month - December
The Monkey Sports Long Beach Bombers Player of the Month, for December, is forward, Gennady Malaschenko. The Mogilev, Belarus native is the oldest player on the squad, and turned in his best stretch of the season, this past month. In just 7 Games Played, he recorded 9 Goals and 8 Assists, for a total of 17 Points. Prior to December, the former national team player had only tallied 4 Goals and 10 Assists in his first 19 Games Played.
Malaschenko led the Bombers with 9 Goals in December, and 16 Even Strength Points. He and linemate, Artem Korolev, tied for the team-lead with 17 Points. Malaschenko registered 5 multiple-point efforts, and was second in team scoring at the WSHL Showcase, in Las Vegas. His incredible run was highlighted by back-to-back hat-tricks, on December 6-7, against Valencia and Ontario.
Long Beach Bombers Head Coach & General Manager, Chris White, commented, “Gena has really stepped it up, for us, and I think he will continue to play a more prominent role as the season progresses. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that his production level showed an uptick when he began taking English classes. Gena has a great shot, is solid with his puck protection, and has a lot of offensive zone creativity. He and Artem (Korolev) are showing a lot of chemistry, and have been able to play with just about anyone that we decide to put in between them. I don’t know if we expected 17 Points in 7 Games, but we certainly are happy that his production is starting to sync with his skill level. He plays his best when the game gets physical and intense, which is going to be a great benefit for us, come playoff time.”
