Larsson Returns For Final Thorne Cup Run

by Bombers Staff

The Long Beach Bombers are proud to announce the return of former Assistant Captain, Joel Larsson. The twenty-year old Swede will be back for his third attempt at the, thus far, elusive Thorne Cup. The 6’2, 190lb forward is a left shot, and can play center or wing. Larsson was in-line to be the Captain, this season, before deciding to enroll in a university, near his hometown of Landskrona, Sweden.

With 114 WSHL Games Played, Larsson is the 4th-most experienced player on the team (Burguev, Urbanec, & Reyes). His 13 Thorne Cup Playoffs Games Played rank him 2nd (Burguev), as do his 10 Thorne Cup Points (Burguev), while his 6 Thorne Cup Goals place him 1st. In total, Larsson has racked up 44G-82A-126Pts in his Bombers career. In his first season, Larsson scored 15 Goals and recorded 46 Points. He then went on to lead the team with 5 Goals in the Thorne Cup Playoffs, while shutting down the opponents’ top scoring lines. In his second season, he improved to 23 Goals and 70 Points, and again led the charge to a back-to-back Western Division Championship, as the team’s shut down center.

Long Beach Bombers Head Coach & General Manager, Chris White, commented, “We couldn’t be happier about Joel coming back for a third playoff run. We would have loved for him to be here all season, but Joel is one of those players whose value increases exponentially, come playoff time. He was fantastic in our 2015-2016 run, and was very good last year, as well. His return will immediately improve our penalty kill, and ability to shut down our opponents’ top players. He can play center or wing, he blocks shots, has good size and speed, and a knack for clutch performances in big games. He was going to be our captain, this season, and his veteran leadership will be great to have in March and April. Amir Burguev has done an amazing job as captain, and he will have some of that pressure taken off, with Joel's arrival. Joel is coming back for one reason - to win a Thorne Cup. He is a positive leader and great teammate, so we are very excited about adding him for the stretch run.”
