Bombers Alum Reels In Czech Speedster Rohlik

by Ron White

The Long Beach Bombers are proud to announce the signing of import forward, Miroslav Rohlik. The Chrudim, Czech Republic native is a left shot winger that captained his HC Pardubice U20 team, a season ago. The 5’7, 165lb twenty year-old was born March 28, 1997. Rohlik will follow in the footsteps of fellow countrymen, and Bombers star forwards, Filip Martinec, Martin Vachal, and Tomas Urbanec.

Filip Martinec was crucial in the signing, as he helped Rohlik obtain a visa, and find a team in the United States. Martinec, who led the Bombers, and the entire WSHL, with 109 points in 2014-2015, is one of Long Beach’s all-time greats. Thus, his endorsement of Rohlik carries significant weight within the organization. Martinec described his client, “He’s a good skate with quick hands and great vision."

Last season, Rohlik played 37 games for HC Pardubice, with a stat line of 13G-12A-25Pts. The team just narrowly missed the Czech U20 playoffs. Rohlik was the 5th-leading scorer, and his 13 goals were 2nd-most on the club. Over three seasons, Rohlik has played 91 games at the U20 level for HC Pardubice. He was also rewarded with 8 games for HC Dynamo Pardubice, in country’s premier league: Czech Extraliga. He managed to score one goal in his time with the big club.

Long Beach Bombers Head Coach & General Manager, Chris White, commented, “Miroslav not only received a sparkling recommendation from Filip Martinec, but has the résumé to back it up. We lost ten of our top-12 forwards, and this signing will go a long way towards replacing the talent and production that has moved on. Miroslav has scored at every level, and was a leader on his previous junior team. We are thrilled to add another very talented player that is dedicated to his craft, and will compete night-in, and night-out. Having Tomas Urbanec back will definitely help Miroslav’s transition to North American hockey and daily life. I think Miro is going to be a great fit within our top-6 forward group, and raise the level of commitment throughout the roster."

Q & A with Miroslav Rohlik:

How did you learn about the Long Beach Bombers organization?

Filip Martinec told me about Long Beach. He recommended me to go there.

Last season, you were the captain of the HC Pardubice U20 team, and put up 25 points in 37 games. Unfortunately, your team just missed out on qualifying for playoffs. How did you feel the season went?

I was disappointed that we didn't make the playoffs, but at the same time, everyone thought we were gonna be the worst team, so I think that we did really good.

Your 13 goals were second on your team, while your 25 points placed you fifth. How would you describe your style of play?

My strength is my speed, and I like to play hard on every shift.

You were rewarded with 8 games for HC Dynamo Pardubice, last year. What were some of the highlights of that experience?

It was to score my 1st professional goal. It was a great feeling.

What are your expectations for your season in Long Beach, both on and off the ice?

I am really excited to play for the Long Beach Bombers. I expect the team to work hard in every game. Off ice, I hope to have a lot of fun with my teammates.
