Bombers Ahlin Signs With Swedish Division 1 Club

by Bombers Staff

The Long Beach Bombers are proud to announce that former defenseman, Anton Ahlin, has signed a contract with Surahammar IF, in Sweden’s Division One. The 6’3, 205lb left shot was a force in his only year with the club. Finishing 3rd in scoring amongst defensemen, he recorded a stat line of 60GP-13G-44A-57Pts.  The Vasteras, Sweden native evolved into a complete defenseman, during his seven months in Long Beach. As a 1998 birth year, Ahlin will forego his final year of junior eligibility, in the United States, to move onto the senior ranks.

Ahlin was originally signed, sight-unseen, thanks to his former defensive partner, Erik Lundgren. The duo made their trans-Atlantic move, together, and continued to play as a pair, for the Bombers. Ahlin was known for his big shot, prior to developing into a 200-foot player, that found himself in a top-line shutdown role in the Thorne Cup Playoffs. Ahlin also grew physically, putting on several pounds of muscle, while focusing solely on hockey. His 13 Goals led the Bombers defensive group, as did his 10 Playoff Points. He was one of just three players to suit up in all 60 Long Beach games.

Long Beach Bombers Head Coach & General Manager, Chris White, commented, “Obviously, we would prefer to have Anton returning for the 2018-2019 season. That being said, our organization is built to develop players and move them on. Anton improved in a number of ways, and I think he will be a solid player in HockeyEttan. I believe Anton’s physical and defensive progression, this season, will help him make the jump to the pro level. It’s always difficult to see a player of his caliber leave a hole in our roster, but it gives opportunity for a new player to come in and earn those minutes. Although, I’m sure the General Manager at Lakewood Ice will be happy to hear Anton won’t be breaking any more panes of glass, this season. We wish Anton all the best, as he begins his professional career.”
