Bombers Add Forward Depth With Wheeler

by Chris White

The Long Beach Bombers are proud to announce the signing of Canadian forward, Joseph Wheeler. The September 3, 1999 right shot hails from High River, Alberta, just south of Calgary. Joseph stands 6’2 and weighs 190lbs. He is entering his first full season of junior hockey, after spending last season with the Foothills Bisons U18 team in the South Central Alberta Hockey League.

Wheeler finished the season as the team’s second-leading scorer, recording 9G-7A-16Pts and 34PIMs. He also played 3 games for the High River Flyers, of the Heritage Jr B League. At the junior level, Wheeler has registered 3 assists in 6 games played. He started this season with the WSHL’s Arizona Hawks, playing a single series against the Bombers rival Valencia Flyers. When the Hawks team seized operations, Wheeler decided to go elsewhere, landing in Long Beach.

Long Beach Bombers Head Coach & General Manager, Chris White, commented, “Joseph had an unfortunate circumstance fall in his lap, but he was proactive and reached out to us about a roster spot. He quickly got in his truck and headed west, in-time to get a practice under his belt. We’ll have him in the lineup, tonight, and see how it goes. He’s a big body, and a right shot; two things we were looking to add. He can play center or wing, and seemed to have a good understanding of the defensive zone. He is another younger player that will add size and depth to our forward group, and most importantly, he is respectful, professional, and happy to be here. We’re excited to get Joseph in the mix, and eager to have him for a full week of practice, next week."
